Abstract

The myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN) are a group of hematologic disorders distinguished by clonal expansion of abnormal hematopoietic stem cells that share clinicopathologic features of both MDS and MPN. They are characterized by hypercellular bone marrows with excessive terminal proliferation of one or more hematopoietic lineages as well as dysplastic changes. This combination of proliferation and dysplasia may lead to increased production of one or more lineages (cytosis) and decreased production of other lineages simultaneously.
