Abstract

Syngas is proposed for combined heat and power (CHP) generation through various devices, either based on combustion or on electrochemical devices, such as fuel cells. In this latter case, syngas may be subject of further treatment depending on the type of fuel cell, i.e., its tolerance to CO, moving from reformate to pure hydrogen. Different fuel processors are analyzed to obtain syngas from different renewable sources. Examples are discussed, which include biomass gasification or reforming of biomass-derived compounds, such as bioethanol. A summary of the modeling issues is reported in the chapter.
