Abstract

Master data management (MDM) is an architecture that has been developed for managing the subset of data in the organization around important areas such as customer, product, and organizational structure information that we call “master” data. These items frequently are the “keys” in the transactional data of the organization. Data integration is critical to master data management to manage the consolidation of data from multiple operational systems and sources, as well as to distribute the master data out to the systems and groups that need to use it. With the advent of purchased vendor applications to perform common functions each vendor application has its own set of master data structures which have to be kept in synch with the organization’s master data.
