Abstract
One of the palpable characteristics of global storytelling is a recognition of the global power of the media. It is both what binds and separates us. It should not be a surprise, then, that the media itself has become a character in contemporary narrative. In this chapter we will look at the presence of the media in terms of content as well as style, and at how the media consequently plays a role in global storytelling. To do so we first turn to the context, not just Marshall McLuhan's proclamation about the medium being the message, but also the acknowledgment of media power and the consequent caution in his pronouncement.
