Abstract
Soft computing methods have repeatedly proven their effectiveness in various branches of engineering (e.g., mechanical, civil, industrial) during the last decade. This chapter presents the basic concepts of the cuckoo optimization algorithm with applications. The versatility of the cuckoo optimization algorithm becomes evident, given these applications to the replacement of obsolete industrial components, machining parameters, and the combined heat/power economic dispatch problem.
