Abstract

Cancer has ever since been a leading cause of death worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, cancer is the second leading cause of death in developed countries, after cardiovascular diseases. With the development and spread of new and more accurate tumor targeting modalities such as proton therapy or high-frequency focused ultrasound, accurate targeting of the tumor became of interest as sparing more healthy tissue became possible. Today's most widely spread tumor targeting solutions like respiratory gating, voluntary breath holding and active tracking with implanted markers, however, either prolong the treatment time substantially or they are expensive and inaccurate.
