Abstract

Plant biotechnology has been internationally acknowledged as one of the significant tools for direct application in the field of agricultural. Plant tissue culture and its developments have a remarkable affect on the agricultural sector internationally. Plant tissue culture in agricultural biotechnology contributes toward production of crops with improved quantity and quality. Therefore, the concept of plant tissue culture is now well transformed into next step of commercialization. Plant tissue culture-based industries have an influential role in national and global economies. A number of nations are installing more units to increase the productivity of plantlets. By introducing automated, robust, and advance technologies most of the industries are able to reduce the time and labor during tedious micropropagation procedures. Indian industries are now flourishing with multidirectional growth and multimillion dollar turnovers. Numerous cereals, medicinal, aromatic, ornamental, and other crops are regularly propagated by tissue culture techniques and have been traded nationally and internationally for many years. Plant tissue culture has turned out to be an important tool in the farming and nursery industries. The growth of plant tissue culture domestically and internationally, with recent technologies and the challenges the industry is facing, are discussed in this chapter.
