Abstract

Recent technological advances have allowed far greater flexibility and environmentally valid methods for clinicians to interact with clients. This chapter surveys several recent developments that are either in their nascent stages of development or are imminently coming to market, which are expected to provide powerful additional options for treatment delivery. These include smart-phone apps (including therapy apps and ecological momentary assessment), smart-phone sensors, cognitive rehabilitation “games,” other video game intervention platforms, and activity monitors. It is anticipated that these advances will substantially alter the face of treatment delivery, and that methods for training psychologists in the applications of these therapy options will soon develop.
