Abstract

This chapter attempts to clarify and evaluate the contribution of DEVS-Scheme to state-of-the-art modelling and simulation. This is done in two ways. First, the “selling point” attributes of DEVSScheme are enumerated and briefly described. How DEVS-Scheme can be extended further along these same lines is is also discussed. Second, other properties of simulation environments are considered. Some of these are incompatible with our approach, some can be incorporated fairly readily. The selection of the first list of properties obviously lays out a slanted playing field in favor of DEVS-Scheme relative to other possibilities. Hence, we present the second set, a kind of wish list, gleaned from colleagues and the literature, as a balancing perspective. Together, the properties described should improve our “knowledge base” for designing and evaluating modelling and simulation environments of the future.
