Abstract
Radiation systems and solar radiation operations are frequently encountered in the traditional fields of mechanical engineering, chemistry, and the chemical industry as well as in other fields such as photosynthesis or ecosystems. Research in radiation systems accommodates scientific approaches, case histories, experience and engineering applications. Research contributions usually include specificity of thermodynamics, mathematical modeling, solar systems, all these fields stressing the inevitability of quantum properties of radiation. To determine the maximum power delivery from a solar engine one must perform an optimization search. Badescu’s (Badescu, V., 2014. Is Carnot efficiency the upper bound for work extraction from thermal reservoirs? Europhys. Lett. 106, 18006) treatment, Section 13.4, which considers this issue, yields a number of new results. The most important one states that the upper bound for the reversible work extraction is not Carnot efficiency. Another result shows that all upper-bound efficiencies depend on the geometric factor of the radiation reservoir.
