Abstract

This chapter performs explicit FEA on dynamic progressive failure properties of composite wind turbine blade under typhoon. The damage model and numerical method in Chapter 10 are further adopted for impact analysis of laminated composite skin of blade. The new consideration in this work includes: (1) the dynamic adhesive failure of the web/skin using the bilinear cohesive model and (2) dynamic fluid/solid analysis by establishing the fluid and solid mesh model. The effects of different wind velocity and thickness of adhesive layer on the impact damage mechanisms of T-shape adhesive piecewise blade are studied.
