Abstract

In this work, the recent literature on the application of ionic liquids in rare earth metal electrodeposition is briefly discussed and the main electrochemical properties of ionic liquids in relation to such applications are presented. In addition, the results of a preliminary investigation into the suitability of a pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquid, namely, N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, for the electrodeposition of lanthanum, is presented.
