Abstract

The field of systems biology has far reaching impact on the disciplines of biology, medicine, and drug discovery. It offers great potential for the betterment of human life and cure against diseases. This chapter covers many aspects of research in the area of bioinformatics and systems biology in bioengineering. In this chapter, we present a brief overview of bioinformatics data sources and tools for system biologists, and the various computational and statistical models developed for a comprehensive understanding of cellular regulatory network. We highlight the implications of these models in the various fields of bioengineering, synthetic biology, and tissue engineering along with applications. We also highlight the prominence of systems biology approaches in the area of disease modeling and drug modeling with applications in human therapeutics and pharmacology.
