Abstract

This chapter is designed to elucidate wave localization in randomly layered media. The problem on plane wave propagation in layered media is formulated in terms of the one-dimensional boundary-value problem. It draws attention of many researchers because it is much simpler in comparison with the corresponding two- and three-dimensional problems and provides a deep insight into wave propagation in random media. In view of the fact that the one-dimensional problem allows the exact asymptotic solution, it can be used to trace the effect of different models, medium parameters, and boundary conditions on statistical characteristics of the wave field. This chapter also discusses statistics of scattered field at layered boundaries, statistical theory of radiative transfer, and numerical simulations.
