Abstract

The Aalto University Campus Libraries moved to one library building in Otaniemi (Espoo, Finland) during Summer and Autumn 2016. Before that, the library building designed by architect Alvar Aalto went through a very thorough renovation. The premises were rebuilt to be modern, still preserving the worthy heritage, to meet the needs of the customers and the Library staff. The building was renovated, involving both Library and University staff and customers in the design process. Design consultancy Kuudes Kerros (https://kuudes.com/) was chosen to lead the service design project. The aim of this project, which began in August 2013, was to create a holistic service concept for the Library that was renamed the Learning Centre. When the service design process ended, work continued with the architectural and interior design based on service design results.
