Abstract

In recent years, there has been a return of natural dyes in the dyeing of textile materials. Although they are not used in mass production, they are preferred due to the advantages they present: nontoxic, sustainable, eco-friendly, and are obtained from renewable sources. On the other hand, there has been a shift in consumer values. They no longer choose a textile product only for its esthetic and comfort function, but also through the prism of its functionality. From this point of view, natural dyes give textile materials not only color but also various beneficial effects on the body. This book chapter describes the classification of natural dyes, their protective and healthcare properties, the active compounds responsible for the functionality of natural dyes, the mode of action of protective and healthcare textiles on the human body, and dyeing methods.
