Abstract
Amongst various natural novel nanocarriers, nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) have achieved pronounced consideration in biomedical fields. NLCs are bestowed with quite a lot of properties, such as facile fabrication, biodegradability, biocompatibility, noncytotoxic, nonimmunogenic, easy surface modification, and stability. These nanocarriers embrace the capability to transform drug release patterns and module release of drugs as sustained, controlled, and enhance the solubility of poorly aqueous soluble drugs. Such modified drug delivery systems evade the degradation and release of drugs during transit before reaching a specific site. All these merits of NLCs eventually evidenced them as suitable and potential nanocarriers for delivery of various drug molecules, phytopharmaceuticals, and genes that additionally get the benefits of enhanced solubility and finally bioavailability. In recent years, numerous pieces of literature, have suggested NLCs for the delivery of drugs and phytopharmaceuticals such as curcumin, atorvastatin, silymarin, ß-sitosterol, tretinoin, etc. This chapter describes the drug delivery potential of NLCs for the delivery of numerous drugs and their biomedical applications.
