Abstract

The nutritive value of the Leucaena leucocephala (L. leucocephala) plant and its interesting physicochemical characteristics make them useful for a plethora of applications, including food and medicine. According to previous studies, the analysis of the different parts of this plant shows that they are rich sources of proteins, tannin, carotene, leucenol, and flavonol glycosides, and other components which play an important role in the potential uses of this plant. Recently, the application of seed powder of L. leucocephala in treat synthetic turbid water and its use as soil fertility improvement has been reported. This chapter explores the physicochemical features of L. leucocephala and the adsorbent derived from this biomass to study them toward removing heavy metals and metalloids from aqueous solutions.
