Abstract
Inspection and monitoring play a critical role in the asset management for owners and operators. This chapter summarizes current inspection practices and methods and provides general industry guidance. We discuss class and regulatory requirements and recommend the inspection schedule and methods. Along the length of a mooring line, there are a few areas that deserve special attention during an inspection. Monitoring should be enforced in conjunction with inspection programs. Monitoring can be performed through different methods, including visual monitoring, direct or indirect measurement of line tension, and monitoring vessel positions. There are mainly three types of monitoring systems available in the industry: load cell, inclinometer, and Global Positioning System–based system.
