Abstract

A hybrid bioreactor comprised of anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic (A2/O) processes and an eco-ditch were developed and applied in a suburban area, Kunming, western China. The hybrid bioreactor could concurrently culture heterotrophic and autotrophic microorganisms. When the hydraulic load was 200m3 per day and the running mode was in intervals of 12h, the removal rates of the hybrid bioreactor were 81% for TP, 74% for TDP, 82% for TN, 79% for NO3-N, and 86% for NH4-N. The improvement of bacterial community structure and bacterial habitats further implied the enhancement of water quality.
