Abstract

Starting a successful green contracting company is a serious business that does not happen by accident. It requires careful planning to start a contracting company. It requires managing the business on a day-to-day basis with information about market analysis and planning, advertising, employee records and training, accounting and bookkeeping, determining target market, and analyzing the competition. Proper planning is the real key to the success of any business and its importance cannot be overemphasized. The process of putting a business plan together, including the thought put into it before writing it, compels one to take a serious, objective, and unemotional look at the business project in its entirety. This assist in identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses. The concept of a business plan is to communicate ideas to others while providing the basis for a financial proposal. This chapter discusses some of the steps needed to succeed in any new startup business venture, whether it is a green contracting business or a professional consultancy. The approach used to identify potential sources and project leads will depend to some extent on whether business is essentially a one-person organization or one that is well organized with several employees.
