Abstract

Though the whole world is looking to reduce the dependency of fossil fuels in the energy sector by introducing pollution free strategies, the global demand for coal has significantly increased since 2005. However, the recent pioneering research and development on CO2 capture and conversion paved a potential way to continue the usage of fossil-fueled power stations, whilst preventing emissions of CO2. In this book chapter, the recent developments on the potential CO2 capture and conversion technologies using various high performing catalysts are introduced briefly. To be precise, the effective conversion of CO2 into hydrocarbons using zeolite family catalysts is discussed in detail. The chapter thoroughly elaborates the recent developments in the utilization of nanostructured zeolite and zeolite-based catalysts for the effective conversion of CO2 into light hydrocarbons and the potential viability of these approaches with a view to qualify for industrial commercialization.
