Abstract

The past two decades have witnessed advances in child mental health research worldwide, and the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) was no exception. While progress has been made, many gaps remain in child mental health research in the EMR. In this chapter, we will first introduce the EMR and its sociodemographic characteristics, summarize the prevalence data of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents in this region and the available resources, then discuss child mental health research and barriers associated with it, and end with a proposed action plan.
