Abstract
Technology-enhanced learning (TEL) has become widely used in the context of child and adolescent mental health teaching and training in a number of capacities, including treatment manuals in e-book form, online training websites and training courses, videoconferencing for training and supervision, as well as virtual reality and simulation-based teaching. While not without its challenges, TEL and training has many potential benefits for overcoming some of the barriers present in relation to the training of child and adolescent mental health professionals, including the capacity to disseminate evidence-based training and information to a wider audience while overcoming geographical and temporal barriers. Hence, TEL and training protocols and platforms could assist in increasing the number and reaching of adequately trained mental health professionals. In this chapter, we review the benefits and challenges of TEL, models of design of TEL resources, and the current evidence base for TEL for child and adolescent mental health professionals.
