Abstract

This chapter outlines the final perspectives on new product development. The first part of the chapter shows how to structure files so that information and data are easily stored, presentable, and retrievable in an organized manner. It serves as a checklist for the various aspects of business development process. The second part of the chapter reviews operational perspectives on new product development as a vocation and a career pathway. The chapter discusses about four requirements for business development success: communication/accuracy; commitment, agreement, and organization. Commitment is the basic requirement among all of the group members and the customers offering product insight and input. Accurate, timely, and unbiased communication is a fundamental requirement. Commitment ensures some degree of momentum and sustainability in the program. A project involving people who do not have commitment will languish and fail. The chapter also discusses about the challenge of organizing multitude of details in projects for usage and recall. The chapter also emphasizes that it is difficult for any two people to agree on everything all of the time, and therefore it is important to allow everyone to express their opinion and make a suggestion.
