Abstract

In this chapter, the procedure of A-scan generation in spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) devices is introduced in a comprehensive manner. In SD-OCT devices, A-scan is generated in two stages: first, a raw A-scan is generated by the optical part of SD-OCT hardware, and then, by executing some signal processing algorithms, the final A-scan is extracted from the raw A-scan. In this chapter, the optical part of a typical SD-OCT as well as the electrical boards adopted to initialize and control of the optical components is assessed in depth. After that, the signal processing algorithms required to generate the final A-scan is introduced in detail. Finally, the key features of SD-OCT devices are assessed where the effects of improper hardware design on these key features are discussed from theoretical and practical point of view.
