Abstract

This chapter gives details mainly of Merchant ships delivered of this millennium. This chapter contains three elaborate tables. The first table shows examples of the deadweight (dwt), main dimensions, speed, and power for gas carriers, ultra large crude carriers (ULCCs), passenger liners and container ships. The second table shows examples of the dwt, main dimensions, speed, and draft for roll-on roll-off (RO-RO) vessels, very large crude carriers (VLCCs), bulk carriers, general cargo ships, and chemical carriers. The third table shows examples of VLCCs and ULCCs for vessels in existence together with ULCCs estimates up to a dwt of 1000 000 tonnes. They indicate the tremendous size of these ships. Communication along the Upper Deck between members of the crew has to be by mobile, video-phone, or unicycle. Over the last 40 years many ships have been designed and built as Standard ships (S/S). This means that several ships have been built from the same design, drawings, and specification. Each S/S will have the same main dimensions, the same hull form, the same power, the same service speed, and a similar layout of accommodation and navigation spaces.
