Abstract
In the past two decades, R&D of mass customization (MC) has passed through incubation, exponential, stable, and matured phases. MC has been successfully applied in industries, such as home appliances, electric products. So MC becomes the main production mode and service mode of the 21st century. This chapter mainly proposes a kind of mass customization manufacturing solution that has been applied in a global mobile phone manufacturer successfully. First, the production processes and several production modes of mobile phone components are described. Second, the mass customization manufacturing solution of the four main phases (marketing, R&D, production, and purchasing), especially the customized order processing, process quality assurance, statistic process control, and the solution's architecture are proposed in detail. The solution's practice results on customer order processing, product and process quality assurance, and the overall benefits are given out to prove the effectiveness of the mass customization manufacturing solution. The solution can easily be applied in or referenced by other mobile phone manufacturers, electrical products manufacturers, and mass customization industries.
