Abstract

In Japan, there are a lot of unused lignocellulose resources and much research and development have been conducted for many years. The new uses of lignocellulose resources include fuel, electricity, chemicals, and materials; however, there are challenges associated with each of these novel uses. From an economical point of view, some of the new technologies have not been commercialized. Recently, cellulose nanomaterial is receiving attention as a high-value additive and a good performance material and many companies began to produce samples and products. The government is promoting its development strategically because it can replace materials from fissile resources and be effective for decreasing greenhouse gases.
