Abstract

Traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Chinese traditional medicine, and Japanese Kampo medicine suggest the use of plant-based medicines such as plant extracts/decoctions or polyherbal formulations for the treatment of various liver diseases. A disease/disorder occurs not from just a single cause, and most diseases require multiple pharmacological agents for their therapy. As medicinal herbs are known for their multifaceted implications, it would be essential to identify and standardize their use. There are several antiinflammatory products available in the Japanese Kampo medicine category, of which here we will discuss those used for hepatic inflammatory conditions. Apart from the several beneficial effects of Kampo medicine, it is essential to know their adverse effects; however, they are very rare among them and from any possible drug interactions.
