Publisher Summary This chapter discusses problems on flux linkages. Whenever there is a change of magnetic flux through a coil or other circuit, an electromagnetic force (e.m.f.) is induced in the circuit. The change of flux may be because of a change of flux density, or to movement of the circuit so as to surround more or less flux. In both cases, Neumann's law applies—the induced e.m.f. is equal to the rate of change of flux-linkage. The chapter also discusses about transformers. A simple transformer has two windings on the same core. The primary winding carries a current that is varied to change the flux in the core, while the secondary winding receives an induced e.m.f. that provides the output. The variation of flux is the same through each winding and so the same e.m.f. is induced in each turn of each winding. The chapter also discusses problems on mutual induction.
