Abstract

Homeopathy had a prominent place in the 19th century health care and has recently undergone a worldwide revival. Therapeutic systems in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), in which autoregulatory and self-healing processes are stimulated by small doses of various herbs or minerals, have been used as medicines for more than 200years. Homeopathic remedies now number more than 1000, but conclusive evidence is still lacking on the effectiveness of homeopathy for most of the conditions associated with high-altitude pathophysiology. This chapter summarizes scientific findings and suggests areas where further research is required to establish homeopathic remedies against high-altitude pathophysiological conditions such as acute mountain sickness (AMS). It will review key homeopathic remedies, including coca, Aloe vera, and other potential candidates against high-altitude maladies.
