Abstract

This chapter elaborates the equivalent length factors for gas lines and the energy conversion data. Flow of gas is also defined here. For gas, flow problems as encountered in oil field production operations, the Fanning equation for pressure drop may be used. In actual practice, empirical flow formulas are used by many to solve the gas flow problems of field production operations. The Weymouth formula is the one most frequently used since results obtained by its use agree quite closely with actual values. Recent modification of the formula, by including the compressibility factor, Z, made the formula applicable for calculation of high-pressure flow problems.
