Abstract

This chapter discusses various extensions of GENMIX. The version of the Prandtl mixing-length model of turbulence that is built into the present version of GENMIX has been described in the chapter. A few alternatives are reviewed, namely: (1) Nikuradse's formula, quoted by Schlichting that expresses the mixing length in a turbulent pipe flow as a polynomial in distance from the wall; and (2) the prescription of the mixing length used by Tollmien and others, according to which the mixing length is proportional to the axial distance from the point of origin of the mixing layer, jet or wake.
