Abstract

Nasopharyngeal cancer is one of the top 10 cancers in Singapore and is a common cancer type in Southeast Asia. Most commercially available endoscopes are either expensive and/or contain sophisticated control machinery that makes their prices astronomical. In addition, administering endoscopy with such equipment requires that it be done in a clinical setting. Therefore, developed a prototype that is inexpensive as well as convenient for home use. The result is a bending device designed to incorporate viewing equipment in a setup that does not require operation by trained personnel. The prototype, called NasoXplorer, is a small portable device designed to promote home monitoring of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), thereby reducing healthcare burden on professionals. In this chapter, we compare the current nasopharyngoscope and our prototype based on the needs metrics that we proposed. We also provide a list of acceptance criteria to ensure that the device is effective and adheres to safety regulations.
