Abstract

The pullulan used for hydrogel design is an economically available polysaccharide with high versatility for chemical modification. In this way, some physicochemical and biological properties of pullulan are improved and hybrid hydrogels with potential medical applications are obtained. Based on their amphiphilicity, the pullulan derivatives hydrogels could load and release a variety of hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. Other pullulan-based hydrogels are ideal candidates for cell scaffolds design proposed for tissues regeneration. By controlled release of drugs form pullulan-based hydrogels, lower and targeted doses of drugs in regenerative medicine will be performed to the detriment of traditional systemic administration.
