Abstract

Mangroves are marine environments confined to temperate and subtropical intertidal zones. They are rich sources of potent secondary metabolites due to their exposure to diverse marine habitats and environmental conditions. From time immemorial, they have been used in traditional medicine for their antioxidant and numerous pharmacological properties. However, the neuroprotective potential of these mangrove resources is not well explored. Therefore, in this chapter, we attempt to put forth information regarding the studies pertaining to the neuroprotective role of the mangroves and their bioactive compounds. The chapter will help to create awareness among researchers and clinicians to further investigate promising therapeutic candidate molecules from these potential mangrove plants in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
