Abstract
Several national and international organizations have published guidelines and recommendations for the use of elastography for assessment of chronic liver disease. All guidelines recommend the use of shear wave elastography techniques to estimate liver stiffness values for the staging and follow-up of chronic liver disease. All guidelines state a strict protocol is needed for accurate measurements. As the technology continues to improve and more studies are published the guidelines and recommendations continue to evolve. This chapter reviews the present guidelines for the use of ultrasound elastography for chronic liver disease.
