Abstract

Our perception of the intracellular organization has changed dramatically following discovery of the prevalence of importance of biological liquid–liquid phase separation that is associated with the biogenesis of various membrane-less organelles and biomolecular condensates. Being ignored for the most time of the existence of cellular biology, in the past few years, these peculiar cellular entities gained considerable attention of the researchers. They are found in bacteria and eukaryotes and are shown to play multiple important roles in various cellular processes. With almost 100 cases presented here, this chapter is one of the most complete compilations of the biomolecular condensates. The goal of this chapter is to show diversity of membrane-less organelles and to illustrate their importance.
