Abstract

This chapter explains the key aspects of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), specifications and key features of user network interfaces, and access transmission line systems. ISDN is a network that provides various types of services, including telephone, data, fax, and video, through a single and universal user network interface (UNI).ISDN being very user-friendly offers significant advantages to a customer thus, enabling the customer to simultaneously use various multiple services through the interface and enjoy both high speed and high quality services by providing end-to-end digital connectivity. It also enables advanced call controls, such as user-to-user signaling and enhanced call handling, and provides circuit switched and nonswitched bearer capabilities. Furthermore, ISDN can provide various supplementary services to customers by using a common channel signaling. Supplementary services enable customers to enjoy more attractive and convenient services.
