Abstract

Multivariate statistical classification methods began in the 1930s with Fisher's linear discriminant function analysis (LDFA). This analysis, despite several important distributional requirements and limitations, has been used extensively in forensic anthropology for classification and in bioarchaeology for biodistance studies. Other statistical classification methods may be more appropriate when LDFA requirements are not met.
