Abstract

Drought stress is one of the most important abiotic stresses to target wheat. There is a considerable loss of yield due to drought stress even though plants have developed mechanisms to cope up with it. ESTs or expressed sequence tags can be used to study processes underlying such mechanisms and can give a prediction of the behavior of plant under conditions of drought stress. These ESTs link to those genes that play a vital role in triggering plant's reaction toward drought, and that is why the main purpose of this chapter is to throw light upon these drought-responsive ESTs or, in other words, to analyze the functional behavior of wheat plant under stress conditions.
