Abstract

Bicycling has a number of benefits to all aspects of life. In order to properly promote cycling, a tailored multi-level approach needs to be taken. This chapter uses the five E’s: engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation/planning to summarize the rest of the book. These five E’s should be followed to maximize the number of people riding within a particular community. Communities should also be cognizant of different efforts that may be most effective in a community of their size, demographics, etc. Examples are given in this chapter of how cities across the world have promoted cycling in their city.
