Abstract

Gas, oil, and 3water chemical/isotopic tracer tests are in demand for tight-reservoir well-planning optimization. They are particularly useful for studying the communication pathways between multiple wells in induced fracture networks in single or stacked reservoirs. Tracer testing is also effective for produced-water contamination monitoring and for leak detection above carbon dioxide storage reservoirs. Improvements in the portability and accuracy of tracer sample analysis equipment are increasing the feasibility of on-site applications of chemical tracer testing.
