Chapter 10 - Applications of [4 + 2] Anionic Annulations in the Total Synthesis

Abstract

This chapter highlights total synthesis of complex target molecules like γ-citromycinone, aquayamycin, uncialamycin, fredericamycin A, trioxacarcin A, hibarimicinone, averufin, viridicatumtoxin B, euplectin, tri-O-methylolivin, etc. belonging anthracyclines, angucyclines, tetracyclines, aureolic acids, carbazole alkaloids and polyketides. These syntheses relied upon the Hauser annulation, the Sammes annulation, the Staunton-Weinreb annulation, the Tamura annulation, the Hauser sulfoxide annulation, etc. as the key steps. These methodologies have made many total syntheses convergent.
