Abstract

This chapter provides knowledge regarding the physical tools that are needed for hardware hacking. The tools and supplies listed in this chapter are a baseline of any good hardware hacking cache. This chapter includes a selection of pictures that show some of the more unique tools of the warranty-voiding trade. Here, the listing of tools that are needed for hardware hacking is separated into three parts: the essential tools, basic hardware hacking and advanced projects and reverse engineering. The essential tools are for the beginner hardware hacker and someone who is curious about dabbling in and experimenting with simple hacks. Basic hardware hacking includes the mid-range tools that are for more serious hardware hacking. Tools needed for the hardcore hardware hacker who is seriously dedicated to his or her trade fall under advanced projects and reverse engineering. These equipments are mostly targeted toward reverse engineering of circuitry and for use in advanced electronic projects in which part of a system might be needed to analyze or circuits might be needed to create.
