Abstract

This chapter discusses the oxidations of inorganic nonmetallic compounds. The reactions of oxygen with oxides of nitrogen is discusses in detail. The chapter focuses on oxidation of halogens and hydrogen halides; sulfur compounds; phosphorus compounds; nitrogen compounds; boron compounds; silicon, germanium, and arsenic compounds; and carbon compounds. The oxidation of carbon compounds is treated very briefly in the chapter and reactions of carbon monoxide oxidation have been avoided. The chapter explains that although kinetic studies of phosphorus oxidation have not yet yielded any rate coefficients, a survey has nevertheless been conducted because a few rate coefficients have been unequivocally determined. It discusses the relationships and yield many quantitative results.
