Chapter 1 - Introduction

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning, evolves rapidly and brings us to the dawn of the AI Revolution. The physical foundation of the AI Revolution is the AI computing system. This chapter first briefly introduces the history of AI and the three main paradigms of AI, and then introduces the concept and history of the AI computing system. Finally, this chapter introduces how an AI computing system works, from algorithm to programming until an on-chip design, by using a representative deep learning application—image style transfer—as a driving example.
