Abstract
The term “nucleation” is sometimes reserved for strictly stochastic nucleation phenomena only, but we use it in a wider sense, and speak for example about cloud drop nucleation even though it is a deterministic process. In this chapter we describe our reasons for writing the book, provide some historical background, and describe the contents of the book briefly.
