Abstract

Nanoparticles (NPs) and nanomaterials are readily being used in industry, agriculture, water treatment, and health sector. The agricultural soils are receiving wide range of nanomaterials (intentionally as a nano amendment or unintentionally via point and nonpoint sources), raising concerns to check their effects on plants. A wide range of research findings have been reported on the effects of various kinds of NPs on plants. Plant nutrient-based NPs (macro and micronutrients) as well as beneficial nutrient-based NPs are the most prominently researched nanomaterials in this regard. Based on shape, dimensions, morphology and chemical nature, NPs vary remarkably so does their impact on plants. This chapter focuses on summarizing types, preparation methods, characterization techniques, and effects of various kinds of NPs on plant biomass productivity.
